Paris Tooraji is a contemporary abstract artist based in England, whose work serves as a profound bridge between complex human emotions and compelling visual narratives. With a professional background in furniture design, Paris’s approach is uniquely informed by a mastery of form, structure, and the tactile nature of physical spaces.
In 2023, he transitioned fully to his lifelong passion for visual arts, creating a unique language that delves into the enigmatic mysteries of existence. His dynamic abstract paintings have been showcased at the Heritage Gallery, Middlesbrough Town Hall, and The Washhouse & Parlour in Rye, East Sussex. Paris is currently developing new pieces for upcoming showcases, dedicated to connecting with discerning collectors through a shared appreciation for bold expression and artistic integrity.
Born in Shiraz—a city steeped in history and world-renowned for its poetry, literature, and fine wines—Paris possessed an innate and indescribable passion for art from his earliest years. While his family envisioned a traditional career in medicine for him, his rebellious and freedom-loving spirit ensured that his dream of becoming an artist never faltered.
In his youth, this creative energy first found expression through music. It was as a violinist and singer that he met Maroo, whose deep understanding of form and colour perfectly complemented his raw passion. This encounter marked the beginning of a profound love and a lifelong artistic partnership. Together, they have spent years supporting each other’s creative evolution, turning life’s complexities into a shared journey of discovery and expression.
Paris is a true night owl, finding his deepest creative flow in the quiet sanctuary of the midnight hours. His ritual begins at 6 pm with a cup of strong black tea—a moment of calm before the transformation of the canvas begins.
His studio is beautifully unconventional: a bespoke fold-away desk in the heart of the kitchen that, when open, serves as a tactical barricade to the fridge. This leads to a playful daily ritual where Maroo finds her path to the kitchen’s essentials blocked by a wall of creativity.
By 9 pm, the artist becomes the chef, as Paris views cooking as another therapeutic form of art—a delicate balance of stirring, chopping, and creating. When Maroo admires his culinary masterpieces with an “I love you, Paris!”, he simply replies with his trademark dry wit: “I know.” For Paris, the world fades away when he is in the zone; there is only the canvas, the colours, and the silent intensity of the night.
No story of the Tooraji Gallery would be complete without mentioning Charlie—the couple’s beloved rabbit, also affectionately known as Lily. The undisputed “King of the Castle,” Charlie is a constant, fluffy presence in the studio, serving as a silent witness to the creative process.
While he is a ray of sunshine in their home, he is also the champion of “re-decorating” by chewing anything within reach. Beyond being a cherished pet, Charlie is a symbol of the joy and playful energy that balances the intense emotional focus of Paris’s work. He is more than a muse; he is family.
